Our hands-on homebrew wind turbine building seminar in Wisconsin in May was a blast for all involved! Three different wind turbines were built by 16 students in 6 days -- a 10 foot diameter machine that we flew on the last day of the seminar, a 12 foot machine, and a 17 foot machine. The seminar was sponsored by the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) and was held at wind power guru Mick Sagrillo's workshop. Go HERE for the roundup and photos.

Homebrew Wind Seminar, September 8 - 12, 2008 at the Otherpower HQ wind turbine shop. 12 students, sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Association. This will be a hands-on, 6-day, very intensive turbine building seminar that will end with a complete wind turbine install and erection. Loads of fun and great knowledge to be gained by everyone. Expect to be completely exhausted by the end of it!

Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Fair, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA -- September 20 to 21, 2008. We've been giving these short, 2-day seminars at the Fair for quite a few years now, and they are an excellent and inexpensive introduction to building a wind turbine from scratch. Otherpower.com's headquarters is located in a remote part of the Northern Colorado mountains, 12 miles past the nearest power pole or phone line. It's extremely quiet, sips fuel instead of gulping it, and sports a new homebrewed axial-flux alternator. Wood-Fired Steam Engine 2kw Backup Battery Charger We always have lots of work to do in the wind turbine shop, but it's OK to have some FUN now and then isn't it? We recently got this vintage steam engine running, and built a 2kw axial-flux alternator for it. It's a great backup battery charger for the shop, and allows us to say "We get our electricity from firewood!" Plus it's a heck of a lot of fun to run! You can hear the steam whistle from 2 miles away when we get a full head of steam built up and start making power.
